Santa Catalina de Siena Church and Convent | San Nicolás

Vitraux Detail of the virgin Vitraux of the church Santa Catalina de Siena Church

The inauguration of this church dates from the year 1745. There, a congregation of nuns belonging to the Dominican order settled down. During the English Invasions, this building suffered the same fate as the churches of San Ignacio and La Merced, taken and sacked by the English. The original façades of the church and the convent have been lost, but they still keep signs of great architectonic value from the colonial period. In the last reforms made in 1920, the façade of the church was noticeably signaled by the baroque and mannerism styles. The round arc, the Tuscan pilasters, and the blue and white Andalusian tiles in its interior stand out. It was declared National Historical Monument and the National Direction of Heritage, since 2001, has been making different archaeological excavations in order to reconstruct our history.
