Post Office Palace | San Nicolás

The Post Office Palace was conceived with the french academicist style Post Office Palace The Post Office Palace was declared National Historical Monument Post Office Palace

The Main Post Office was projected at the end of the XIXth century, when the government intended to let the economic apogee show through the construction of modern buildings like this one. It is an academicism construction that was inaugurated in 1928, planned around the New York Post Office. Its monumentality agrees in style and hierarchy with the official architecture of the Main Court House and the National School, forming a trilogy by the same author, the architect Norberto Maillart, whose French academicism is evidenced in other constructions in the city. It underwent many modifications during the 50 years that its construction took; however, following the esthetic guidelines of Maillart, it ended up becoming a building of great solidity and majesty. Inside, it lodges works of great value such as the reliefs by Chiérico, and sculptures by Samuel Morse and Gurrieri, among other outstanding works by local painters. Its beautiful and impressive stained glass ceiling grants personality and majesty to its central hall. It was declared National Historical Monument, its facilities being now used for institutional and administrative work.
