Alvear Avenue | Recoleta

Craft Market of Recoleta Alvear Hotel, a building with architectural relevance of the avenue

This avenue was projected in 1885 by decision of major Torcuato de Alvear, being first called “Bella Vista”. It starts where the monument to Carlos Pellegrini stands, in Pellegrini square, and ends where the monument to Alvear is located. Its width reminds of a French style, and so do its features and architecture along it. There is clear predomination of academicism, making it the most elegant Avenue in the entire city. It leads through the entrance of gorgeous mansions, and aristocratic residences, among them the Alzaga Unzue Palace (currently the Four Seasons Hotel), the Pereda Palaces (nowadays the residence of the Brazilian Ambassador), and the mansion that belonged to Concepción Unzue de Casares (nowadays the Jockey Club of Buenos Aires). It also leads to the most important designer’s shops, as well as the top local jewelry stores, with luxury and exclusive items. This exclusive Avenue gives the impression of great glamour, charm, distinction and elegance.
