Torquato de Alvear Square | Recoleta

It was first called Recoleta Promenade upon its creation at the beginning of the century. The Convent of the Recoletos Monks that was situated in this place was the reason Recoleta is called this way. On such construction, the Recoleta Cultural Center was later erected. It is surrounded by several buildings of great historic and cultural value. The promenade was constructed by decision of Mayor Alvear, who entrusted the project and design to the German engineer Schübek, making a type of replica of the Parisian “Bolois de Bolulogne”. 1993 was the year of inauguration of the Buenos Aires design Center (connected to the Recoleta Cultural Center), formed by a group of commercial premises devoted to design in general. It is surrounded by the “Design terraces”, where there are restaurants and bars that offer the option of staying inside or sitting outside, on the roofed terraces, which grants the possibility of enjoying a privileged view of this gorgeous area. The touch of liveliness is the weekend Art Fare that takes place here and in Francia Park as well, where the local artisans offer their works, in leather, metal or cloth; the result is stylish “mates”, bijou, clothes or visual art crafts.
