Don Pedro de Mendoza Monument | San Telmo

This monument was built honoring Don Pedro de Mendoza, in a work that reminds of the First Foundation of Buenos Aires. The sculptor Juan Carlos Oliva Navarro was responsible for this work. It consists of a fountain with a bronze statue with a marble bas-relief wall behind it. In one of the bas-reliefs all the names of those who were in the expedition are engraved. Next to the statue, there is the bust of Ulrico Schmidt, the famous English chronicler who arrived with the expedition and who recorded all the events of the time. The whole work reminds of the expedition to the Río de la Plata and the Foundation itself, marked by the image of Don Pedro de Mendoza sticking his sword on the ground.
