Plaza de Mayo - Congreso (Mayo Square - Congress) | Historic
This circuit starts in the “historical core of the city”, Plaza de Mayo, that was the place where the city of Buenos Aires was originated under Juan de Garay’s planning pursuant to the Laws for the Colonies. It was first called Main Square and it had a church (currently the metropolitan cathedral), the “Cabildo” (a governmental building) and the fort (nowadays, the government house) and the plots that made up the apples from which the city grew surrounded it.
Later, you will continue by foot through Avenida de Mayo that joins the two institutional spots that rule the country: The Executive power from the Government House in Plaza de Mayo and the Legislative Power in the National Congress in the “Plaza de los dos Congresos” (literally, square of the two congresses).
During this small tour you will be able to see theatres, cafes, monuments and the emblematic buildings of this city around which facts of paramount historic importance took place.
It is also the area where you will find the main buildings pertaining to the political, social, economic and administrative aspects of the country.
