From being a sports for elites in the past, tennis became a mass sport since Guillermo Vilas and Gabriela Sabatini’s popularity and international importance.

David NalbandianAll clubs in the country offer tennis lessons and enter local tournaments.

Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club is the venue, where the Davis Cup takes place when Argentina is home, as well as The International Buenos Aires Tennis Open, which features the best players in the world and takes place in February.

These days, the whole population follows all international tournaments, interested in the performance of the national players among the first 15 positions in the ATP ranking. The most remarkable exponents of argentine tennis nowadays are: David Nalbandian (3º position in 2006, Wimbledon 2003 finalist, Tennis Masters Cup 2005 champion), Guilermo Coria (3th position in 2004, Rolland Garros 2004 finalist), Gastón Gaudio (5º position in 2005, Rolland Garros 2004 champion) and Guillermo Cañas (8º position in 2005).
